The world of movie trailers has changed significantly in the past few years. Due to the constant use of social media and smart phones, moviegoers are able to easily share new footage and encourage each other’s anticipation and excitement for upcoming blockbusters. As such, new trailers and TV spots have become events themselves, with studios constantly teasing the next time we can see new footage. Among the droves of franchises that have used this marketing tool is none other than Star Wars, which will add a new entry into the universe every December until (presumably) the end of time.
The next adventure in a galaxy far, far away is the one shot film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Footage for the first Star Wars spinoff has been pretty minimal, but now we know when the next trailer will hit and cause nerdgasms everywhere. In a new Rogue One TV spot airing during the Olympic Games, it was revealed that the next trailer will premiere this Thursday, August 11th. That’s right, we’re just a few short days away from seeing more X-Wings, blasters, and Stormtroopers.
While the announcement trailer hasn’t been released digitally, a few hardcore fans did manage to take a crappy bootleg and post it on social media. You can check it out for yourself below.
While the visuals of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso alongside famous soccer players may seem a bit disjointed, the message of the TV spot is clear. We’ve got more_Rogue One _coming, and it’s going to be real soon. Honestly, I don’t care what else you include in a commercial if I’m going to get an AT-AT thrown in there for good measure. And I don’t think I’m the only one.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating a new Rogue One trailer for quite some time now. Many believed that trailer 2 would be released during San Diego Comic-Con, so it was disappointing to some that we got a behind-the-scenes video instead. Sure, we got new footage and looks at the various aliens who will be occupying the story, but we wanted a genuine trailer.
Thursday’s Rogue One trailer is an exciting moment for a few reasons. While the first trailer was pretty damn awesome, there’s a bunch of highly anticipated character who we weren’t shown. Namely, fans want at least a glimpse of Darth Vader to get them extra excited for the first one spot movie. Vader hasn’t been seen in a Star Wars movie since back in Return of the Jedi _(I’m going to go ahead and not count that infamous “NOOOO” in _Revenge of the Sith). As such, there are entire generations of Star Wars fans who have never seen Darth Vader in the movies. It was also recently announced that Jimmy Smits would be reprising his role as Bail Organa, aka Leia’s father, during Rogue One. Basically, old school characters are back, and we want to see them.
