Doom isn’t a great game to jump in and out of. In between playing games for review I’m trying to work through the campaign, a campaign I am generally really enjoying, but each time I go back to it I feel way off the pace. It’s such a fast game that it’s not easy to just pick up where you left off, halfway or more through the campaign. I’m being killed a lot.
I’m still playing Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, too, which is perhaps Doom’s polar opposite in the video game first-person world. It’s the kind of game I feel I could put on autopilot for a month, then come back to and find out I’d missed very little. It’s intriguing and beautiful, but slow. So slow.
Steve Burns, Deputy Editor – PES 2017, PS4, Hitman 2016, PS4
The news you’ve all been waiting for: PES 2017 is very, very good. You can relax now. It’s fine. So far, there have been no major blunders, no ghastly howlers. The keepers are better, the refs are better, the shot choice is better, the haircuts are better. But it’s also a bit slower, a bit more methodical, which may turn off certain bastards. Not me. I love it.
Anyway, that’s pretty much it for what I’ve been playing. Apart from Hitman, of course. Having gone back to mop up yet more challenges, it’s clear that this is a strong contender for game of the year: fun, inventive, devious, malicious, hilarious. What a cracker.
Alice Bell, Junior Staff Writer – Batman – The Telltale Series, PS4
So this week I have mostly been playing Batman, multiple times, and watching other people’s let’s plays on YouTube, to make sure I have a comprehensive understanding of all the choices in the first episode, and can therefore write accurate guides going forwards. It’s okay. Not great. Will hopefully get better. I actually did a review of it, which you should definitely read.
The bit I like most about it, however, is that they’ve updated Oswald Colbblepot aka The Penguin aka man everyone immediately envisages as Danny DeVito from Batman Begins into a tall, thin man in his 30s. He is outwardly terrible: he has a slim fit trench coat like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, and is apparently planning some kind of semi-socialist revolution in Gotham. He’s got possibly the worst accent of any incarnation of the Penguin yet. He has a soul patch. And yet I properly fancy him. It’s not right. I’ll probably get and play future chapters of the game on the promise of him appearing in them, no matter how terrible the rest of the game actually is.
I need to stop this sort of thing. I’m still getting shit on Twitter for romancing Solas in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
