Bandai Namco and From Software release the launch trailer for the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, the first portion of additional content for intimidating action RPG Dark Souls 3.
Even though many a gamer has made their way through the entirety of Dark Souls 3 by now, developer From Software still has plenty of tricks up its sleeves in order to keep the most hardened of gamers on their toes. For starters, the developer has now released the first DLC pack for the title, named Ashes of Ariandel. To coincide with the release of the additional content, publisher Bandai Namco has now revealed a launch trailer to give a brief glimpse at what players can expect.
For starters, those anticipating the same foreboding atmosphere from this Dark Souls 3 DLC pack are in for a treat. Ashes of Ariandel throws players into the Painted World of Ariandel, bringing back memories of the Painted World of Ariamis from the first Dark Souls game. Within that plane, however, it’s hardly going to be smooth sailing for the player.
Instead, the Painted World of Ariandel is going to throw a whole new horde of enemies at the user, alongside some new bosses. On top of all that, there is also the new Ashes of Ariandel PvP content that gamers will have to contend with. It certainly seems as though From Software is entering the next phase of its plans for the game. Alongside the Ashes of Ariandel additional content, From Software has also focused on a new patch for Dark Souls 3, which includes adjusted values for the poise stat. Hopefully, the new additions to the title can help prolong its longevity, as well as continue the quality seen with the original release.
Those concerned that Ashes of Ariandel could be the last gamers see of Dark Souls 3 need not worry, though. According to reports, there is still more DLC planned for the future. At the moment, however, no further details are known on the second lot of DLC, although there are estimates that it will be released at some point in early 2017.

What the future holds for the Dark Souls franchise as a whole, however, remains to be seen. Hidetaka Miyazaki has suggested that Dark Souls 3 is “closure” for the series overall, meaning the game could be the end of the series. With From Software’s next game supposedly coming to PlayStation VR, perhaps more about the project will be revealed soon.
Dark Souls 3 is out now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Ashes of Ariandel expansion is also now available on all platforms.
