Bungie and Activision are hitting the pause button for Destiny on Xbox 360 and PS3 – today marks the last scheduled update that previous-gen versions of the game will receive. Emergency fixes will still be issued should the need arise, but don’t expect any more major pushes. This was bound to happen eventually, and with September’s Rise of Iron expansion slated solely for current-gen consoles, it made sense that the end would come sooner rather than later.
So what’re you getting for standing stalwart on Microsoft and Sony’s previous consoles? Unfortunately, nothing too groundbreaking. An issue with Solar-based damage over time has been fixed, as has an issue with weekly activities ending early. If you didn’t receive your Moments of Triumph book, you should now be able to grab it from the Postmaster. And… that’s pretty much it. It’ll be interesting to see if the previous-gen Destiny players migrate or if they’ll continue playing this version. In a way, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game have just become time capsules. When Destiny gets patched to include VR support, pet wolves, smell-o-vision, and neon flying dragon mounts (none of which are real things coming to the game by the way), Destiny on previous gen consoles will still be the same as it was on July 26, 2016. More or less.
There will still be revolving daily and weekly challenges, but scheduled updates and special events like Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner are going away. The result is a game frozen in time.
